“Viscosity” was the theme of this year’s insightful and inspirational Semiofest gathering — convened in Warsaw from May 20–23. For those who were unable to attend, the Semiofest Warsaw team are pleased to extend the conversation online, offering a chance to experience the spirit of the conference and its key ideas. They warmly invite you to join a session whose presenters will explore price anchoring in the alcohol category as a function of viscous meaning codes, the notion of discursive viscosity as a condition for the emergence of truth, and more.
Our sessionists:
- TIZIANA MIGLIORE is Associate Professor of Semiotics at the University of Urbino Carlo Bo. She is the Secretary General of the International Association for Semiotic Studies. A specialist in Visual Semiotics and Rhetoric, she has taught in several universities and is the author of several books, including “La parola trasformatrice.”
- CAMERON SHACKELL is an independent researcher and advisor on pricing, signalling and incentives in regulated markets. He is an Adjunct Fellow at the Centre for Policy Futures at the University of Queensland. His recent research explores how prices and product design function as signals in markets shaped by regulation, particularly in the emerging market for NoLo drinks.
- TIM STOCK is a cultural researcher, educator, and foresight strategist who uses semiotics, structured narrative techniques, and AI to show how cultural signals reshape markets and institutions. He is co‑founder and managing partner of scenarioDNA, Associate Teaching Professor at Parsons School of Design at The New School, and a Global Community Professor with the Universidad de Monterrey. Stock is co‑inventor of a patented AI‑driven system for mapping cultural signals, and co‑author of “Story Systems and Cultural Research: A Mixed-Methods Guide to Forecasting Social Change.”
